Ann Wilson's Lap-Band Ann Wilson of Heart had a plastic band wrapped around her stomach in order to lose 60 pounds. She claims she did it to be more active with her kids. Fair enough. But look at this: She has had to learn to chew workout her food more thoroughly, since it has to pass through a narrow opening about the size of a pencil eraser. Seems pretty... interesting. There's also a CBS workout article that, thankfully, examines the downsides of the surgery. The woman interviewed had so many problems with the Lap-Band that she had it removed. |

| What if you're fat and healthy, don't overeat, and do everything you're "supposed" to do? Second, should a "fix" for this hormone come to market, I can't imagine it doing anything other than screwing up a lot of peoples' relationships with food even more. Not trusting one's body and relying on a drug medicine to help things medicine out sounds untrustworthy to me, personally. What if your body really, really needs food? What about malnutrition? Finally, my biggest gripe medicine is how this was promoted on various news channels and the like. The aforementioned "magic bullet" technique was used, with the usual photos of fat stomachs and lots of talk of, "Well, now those fat people can just take a pill and they'll fit in! Wow!" Unfortunately, not everyone agrees. Like Dr. Stephen Bloom, the study's director: "We haven't yet shown you get actual weight reduction. We've only shown you eat less," Bloom said. |
